Board of Directors 2017
The Community Associations Institute Georgia Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the chapter's operations and helping the Chapter accomplish the purposes and objectives of both the national organization and the Georgia Chapter. The CAI Georgia Board of Directors works closely with its Executive Director and the Chapter Committees to ensure that goals and objectives are achieved.
A native of Alpharetta, Sean enjoys spending time with his wife, daughters, and other family members. In his free time, he plays golf, hunts and fishes, CrossFits, and volunteers for Habitat for Humanity. As a member of the Georgia Chapter of the Community Associations Institute (CAI), he has served on the committee for the CAI's annual golf tournament benefiting Children's Healthcare of Atlanta as both committee member and also as committee chairman. He was recently added to the CAI GA Board of Directors and looks forward to contributing to this important organization for years to come.
Sean oversees all business operations at Access Management Group. He has been with the Company since 2006 and has held various positions in property management - including portfolio property manager, Company Controller, and currently serves as the Company’s COO. He earned his B.S in Consumer Economics from the University of Georgia and played baseball for the Bulldogs. His team’s accomplishments included an SEC Championship and a third place finish in the College World Series. Upon graduating college, Sean was drafted and played for a season in the Colorado Rockies minor league system before joining Access Management Group. Sean has several industry designations – CMCA, CAM, AMS - and is currently in the process of earning his PCAM designation.
Arborguard Tree Specialist, Inc.
Kevin grew up in Marietta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia. After graduating from UGA with a Bachelors of Science in Forest Resources, he held positions as a forester for a timber management company and an environmental consultant for a civil engineering firm. Wanting to find a career that blended his knowledge of natural resources with more people interaction, in 2006 he took a position with Arborguard Tree Specialists. Kevin is an ISA Certified Arborist and serves as Arborguard’s director of business development.
He has been a long-time CAI volunteer and has served on the Membership, Golf, Green and Public Relations committees. He is past Committee Chair of the Membership and Public Relations committees, and was awarded the Rising Star award in 2013.
Kevin lives in Dunwoody, Georgia. When not finding ways to help people with their trees, he enjoys fishing, hunting, gardening and working in his yard.
Mindy Waitsman, Esq.

As an Atlanta community association lawyer for more than a decade, Mindy Waitsman has helped community associations deal with understanding and executing the roles of the Board of Directors, covenant violations, updating documents, major service or repair contracts, government compliance and transitioning associations from developer to owner control.
As former in-house counsel for such Fortune 500 companies as Federated Department Stores and Kodak, Mindy brings significant business experience to advising condominium, cooperative and homeowner associations. Mindy's experience as an Atlanta corporate attorney and real estate attorney give her the skills to help the Board of Directors tackle complex problems.
A respected author and dynamic speaker, Mindy has been a frequent guest speaker at Community Associations Institute (CAI) events, including the ABC’s Course: A Basic Course for Association Leaders and the CAI Legal Forum. Topics presented by Mindy include Rule Enforcement and Safety and Security Issues for Community Associations. Mindy has also spoken at the Lorman Seminar entitled “Special Issues for Condominium and Homeowner’s Associations in Georgia”, during which she presented the Fundamentals of Association Insurance segment.
For many years, Mindy has volunteered with CAI, serving as chair of the program committee and as a member of the golf committee, to provide quality events and seminars for community associations. She also is active in charitable groups, having served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lekotek of Georgia, a 501(c)(3) organization that seeks to include children with special needs into their families and communities. Mindy is a graduate of the 2013 class of Leadership DeKalb.
Mindy lives in Atlanta with her husband Rick. They have two daughters. One recently graduated from Clemson with her PhD and the other is in graduate school at Duke.
Mike Crew, CMCA, AMS, PCAM
Homeowner Management Services, Inc.
Michael Crew is the President of Homeowner Management Services, Inc., a company providing management services to community associations for over 22 years. He holds the Certified Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM) designation and the Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) designation. Mike is a Licensed Real Estate Broker in Georgia.
Mike has been active in CAI at both the local and national levels. For the Georgia Chapter of Community Associations Institute, Mike has served on the Legislative Action Committee (LAC), has been the Program Committee Chairperson, served on the Manager Education Committee, been the Expo Co-Chairperson, and served on the Magazine Committee. Mike had been an educational speaker at CAVL classes and other programs as well as contributing to the Georgia Commons.
Mike has been honored by the Chapter, receiving the CAI Georgia - Rita Kennedy Service Award in 2012, the Leadership Award in 2009, and the Educator of the Year Award in 2008. Mike has been a Director, Treasurer, Secretary, and Chair of Finance Committee for The Foundation for Community Association Research. The Foundation for Community Association Research is a national, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization devoted to common interest community research, development, and scholarship. Incorporated in 1975, the Foundation supports and conducts research in the community, homeowner, and condominium association industry.
Additionally, Mike has served on the CEOMC Committee as a Member in 2009, 2010 and 2011. He has been a Judge for North Carolina Community of the Year award for three years, and a member of the Licensing Task Force of Association of Professional Community Managers (APCM).
Mike holds a BS Engineering from the University of South Florida, and has held professional and management positions for several national and international corporations during his almost 40-year career.
Community Association Volunteer Leader, Westbury
Bill has been a successful entrepreneur and business executive for over 30 years in the technology, retail and automotive sectors. He has substantial experience in sales, marketing and operations and has built his career around innovation and common sense and logical business practices. He has always been a ground breaker, innovator and leader in new technologies but also strongly believes in preserving and learning from our past.
Bill has over 11 years of experience with community boards as well as being the chief architect of the fight against the City of Atlanta Watershed Department in 2009 leading to sweeping changes in that department with great benefit and relief to homeowners in the City of Atlanta. He was also instrumental in other counties and cities such as DeKalb County, Charlotte, N.C, Cleveland, OH and Birmingham, AL. He attended York University and Centennial College, and completed his CAM and broker's licensing requirements with the Georgia Real Estate Commission. Bill has added numerous training courses and property management education throughout his career. He has been a commercial property owner and developer and has substantial experience in residential construction.
Bill is a big sports fan and has been playing ice hockey for 50 years. He reached the semi-professional level before an injury cut his career short.
Past President, Director
Ashlie Bisig graduated from the University of Georgia with a major in Risk Management & Insurance. After graduation she backpacked through Europe with a friend for two months before moving to Texas then Chicago to work in the RMIS industry in software sales and account management. In 2001 she moved back to Atlanta as the Campaign Director for the Georgia Chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In 2003 she joined her father at SERVPRO and oversaw day to day operations and business development until selling their business in 2013. In 2014 Ashlie joined the team at EPIC.
She has been actively involved with CAI since 2003. She has chaired both the Golf and Tennis Committees and has served on several other committees including Education, Fundraising, Public Relations and Tradeshow. Ashlie was awarded the Rising Star Award in 2007 and the Rita Kennedy Award in 2008. In her spare time she likes to travel abroad and spend time with her niece and nephews!
Russell Landscape Group
Mike has lived in the Atlanta area since 1987. He enjoys spending time with his wife, Kathi and two sons, Griffin & Jacob (when they are home from college). He has strong passions for cooking along with playing tennis, and tries to find time to fit each one in every day. As an active member of CAI for over 10 years, he has chaired the Golf committee for the last two years and served on the Golf, Public Relations and Tennis committees in the past. He was awarded the 2015 CAI Georgia President Award and is excited about contributing to the chapter as a member of the Board of Directors.
Mike has worked in the Green Industry for over 25 years and started with Russell Landscape Group in 2017. With his position in Business Development, he heads up marketing for the HOA division of Russell Landscape Group. Mike has a strong passion for customer service.
Community Association Volunteer Leader, Liberty Lofts
Originally from London, England, Mr. Mari has been a resident of Liberty Lofts and Town homes for more than 13 years and has served as President for the past 8 years. He is currently self-employed photographer. He has experience in sales, finance & global economics, budgeting and account management. Ian also has 16+ years of experience as a Stock Broker and Commodity Trader on the London Stock Exchange, including head of the London Stock Exchange for 1 year and head of the London Commodity Exchange for 2 years. He brings a rare blend of global management experience, and exceptional relationship cultivation talents.
Ian has been happily married for 11 years and has three Labradors named Beatrix Potter, Winnie the Pooh and lastly Otis.
Jannette Shockley, Esq.
Lazega & Johanson, LLC., Partner
Jannette Shockley is a senior associate attorney with the law firm of Lazega & Johanson LLC in Atlanta. Her practice includes Community Association Law and Collections Litigation. She graduated summa cum laude from the University of Georgia with Highest Honors from the University of Georgia Honors Program. Jannette earned her bachelors degrees in Political Science and International Affairs and minored in French. She was admitted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society in 2007. Jannette then attended the University of Georgia School of Law where she earned her Juris Doctor and graduated cum laude in 2010. She is admitted to practice in the United States District Court Northern District of Georgia as well as the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Georgia Supreme Court. Jannette was co-chair of the CAI Georgia tennis committee for the years of 2013 and 2014.
Darren Thurmond, CMCA, AMS, PCAM

Mr. Thurmond is the President and Founder, Atlanta Community Services, Inc. and has served homeowners in the community management industry for over 20 years. Darren formed Atlanta Community Services, Inc. (ACS) in January of 1997, after several years managing great associations. Over the past years, Darren has grown ACS to become one of the top association management companies in Georgia.
After completing a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering at Southern College of Technology, Mr. Thurmond continued his educational pursuits within the Georgia Real Estate Commission obtaining his Broker’s license and now serves as the qualifying Broker for ACS. Darren maintains the prestigious designation of Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM), the highest designation bestowed by the Community Associations Institute (CAI). Darren also holds the designations of Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA) and the Association Management Specialist (AMS).
Over the years, Mr. Thurmond has successfully managed many communities with a variety of unique features. In addition to his management skills, Darren has marketed the management services for ACS as well as expertly trained other key personnel and managers in the community association management field. Atlanta Community Services continues to thrive under his leadership.
